The Challenge
Being a historic hotel, the Villa Castagnola still uses a great many cast-iron radiators, which necessitates high flow temperatures. The old setup with four 250kW gas boilers had to be replaced as smoothly as possible to avoid any disturbance to the guests. Therefore, the project was executed in two consecutive years, each time replacing two old boilers with a new one.

The ELCO solution
The cascade with one TRIGON® XL 500 and one TRIGON® XL 570 supplies heat for the entire hotel. The new boilers were connected to the existing setup in the boiler room. Enough heat can be generated even with just one boiler running. Hot water is generated using a separate heat pump.
A complete service
In 2020, Villa Castagnola implemented an ambitious remodeling of its entire heating system to lower CO2 emissions and fossil fuel usage. Due to the cast-iron radiators, the hotel is still reliant on gas to provide heating. Using ELCO’s advanced, low-emission boilers, the CO2 footprint could be substantially lowered.
